How To Change Bad Habits
The quality of your life is defined by good values and habits you have. As you know everyone is a mix of good habits and bad habits. That doesn’t mean you have to live with your bad habits. If you have an overreacting, over controlling habit you can’t really expect strong meaningful relationships in your life. It’s so clear. In the same way there are habits that block you from achieving what you actually deserve. So it’s your responsibility to change such bad habits to improve your life.
Any habit is good or bad form by doing it again and again over a period of time. But to build a new positive habit or to change a bad habit you have to be aware of the outer result of that habit. For example if you are a complete honest person people automatically trust you and you can sense that trust.
When you become aware of how a forming or elimination of a habit can change your life a sense of urgency will automatically come to you. This is very important. First be aware of what habits make you and what all break you.
As we discussed earlier to change a habit it will take time. But with mindfulness you could change that. To start that change first analyse what all situations trigger that habit within you. When the same situation comes again consciously don’t drag yourself into the same bad habit again.
Even the smallest change in this way will give you confidence to improve further. When you focus on the confidence and courage you get while making the smallest change this shift in habit becomes much easier. Instead of a motivation you will get the real drive to achieve that goal anyway. In that way when you express the new behaviour again and again it becomes a part of your character.
After you reach that mental stage when the same situations that trigger the old bad habit happen again it won’t affect you. This one single elimination of a bad habit from your character has so many advantages. It will make you realize tha habits have in your character what define the quality of your life. You will also realize that as long as bad habits exist in your character you couldn’t expect good results.
Don’t wait for someone else to advise you to change your bad habits. It’s your responsibility. When you wait for others or remain unaware of the consequences of keeping bad habits, what you are going to lose is peace of mind and time. Both these have value words they can't express. Make self analysis as a daily habit. Be aware what all habits make you and what all breaks you. Then put yourself in a constant never ending improvement mode by eliminating the bad habits and adding the good habits.
